Sea slugs are known for their individually identifiable neurons. Research in the Katz lab using the nudibranch Berghia stephanieae using volume electron microscopy, in situ hybridization chain reaction, and behavioral observation has expanded our understanding beyond the small number of large identified neurons to show that the brain and the body are integrated into one extensive nervous system.
