Name: Adrian Salgado '27 (he/him/his)
Hometown: Chicago, Illinois
Prospective major(s): Computer Science and Mathematics
Activities on campus: Outing Club, Figure Skating, Club Tennis, Amherst College Tennis Umpires
Language spoken: English
Hey everyone! My name is Adrian and I'm a rising sophomore from Chicago, Illinois. I came to Amherst because after making a 77-page document filled with pros/cons lists on tons of different colleges, it was one of the few schools with practically no cons. What I didn't know was that every single pro on that list would turn out to be true, along with so much more. Since arriving last fall, I've enjoyed meeting people from a wide variety of backgrounds and having the most interesting conversations with them all. On top of that, the level of teaching here has been remarkable and I've been able to get to know my professors both during and outside of class--even over the delicious pasta dinners at Val! When I'm not in class (or doing homework), you'll probably find me walking around campus chatting with old friends as well as making new ones. Or I could be happily drifting down rapids after falling out of a whitewater raft in one of our fabulous Outing Club's excursions. Wherever you find me, I can't wait to meet you and encourage you to reach out at asalgado27@amherst.edu!

Hi everyone! I'm Finley and I'm a rising sophomore from the California bay area. I'm a prospective English and art major, but I'm taking advantage of Amherst's open curriculum to explore classes from other potential areas of study. I've enjoyed getting to know my professors and hearing the diverse perspectives of other students in my class. When I'm not in class, you can find me in the WAMH studio, watching sports in the common room, or taking walks in the wildlife sanctuary to watch the changing seasons. As someone who was terrified to leave my family, Amherst's warm and vibrant community made me feel at home. I love seeing friends and familiar faces every time I walk around campus. Hometown: Salisbury, Maryland
Prospective Major(s): Philosophy and Psychology
Activities on campus: Amherst Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Big Band, Philosophy Club, Student Health Educators
Hobbies: Wood burning and carving, caring for my 14 plants, going on night walks, making music with friends
Language spoken: English
Hi everyone! I’m Kara, a rising sophomore from rural Maryland. I’m majoring in philosophy and love exploring its combinations with other disciplines, like psychology. I’m eager to take advantage of the open curriculum and explore tons of different departments while I’m here--like many Amherst students, I share the sentiment that there’s too much I’m interested in and not enough time to pursue it all! I’m super passionate about music and love spending time playing trumpet on campus, even though I don’t think I’ll be a music major. I remember making the decision to come to Amherst while sitting in on an Amherst Symphony Orchestra rehearsal because I felt the welcoming and vibrant community that I’ve now come to love as my own. Besides orchestra, I joined the jazz big band and a brass quintet and had the opportunity to be part of the huge UMass trumpet studio through the 5-college consortium. Whether I’m in a class, at an extra-curricular, or just relaxing outside, the Amherst community is what makes life here so special. Never before have I met such caring, inspiring, interesting, and supportive people. I’d love to meet more, so please reach out to me with any questions (or just to talk!) at kelewis27@amherst.edu!

In my free time, I enjoy learning new skills (especially those that can help me save money), Like learning how to braid my hair and paint my nails,... I also like taking walks around campus and Amherst downtown. I love hanging out with friends, and we often visit different boba shops; my favorite drink is the strawberry and passion fruit smoothie with mango pops from Lime Red ( do not order this drink if you’re on a sugar cut!). There is always someone to laugh with, whether it’s practicing with the rugby team, val-sitting during the weekends, going to a Professor’s office hours, or hitting the gym. Aside from Amherst's social/collaborative side, I’m always taking advantage of the extensive academic and advising resources available. Professors are always willing to meet with students individually and during office hours to cultivate meaningful, close connections. If I’m not at practice or in the Admissions office, I’m studying theoretical mathematics with a Frost whiteboard. Can’t wait to explore with you everything Amherst and the beautiful Holyoke range has to offer!

I was immediately drawn to the welcoming environment and the flexible yet rigorous academic curriculum. I am so grateful for the kind and motivated students I have met, as well as the hugely supportive faculty. On campus, you will probably find me plugged into an audiobook with my ninth cup of Earl Grey tea of the day, or maybe on the third floor of Frost library with an obscure German text. Please feel free to contact me at ibindman24@amherst.edu to ask about any aspect of academics, student life, or maybe the time I dressed up as former President Biddy Martin for Halloween. Amherst is everything I hoped it would be and I look forward to sharing it with all of you!

Hi Everyone, I'm CiCi Curran (she/her/hers). I'm a '25E (senior-ish) from McLean, VA, though I've spent the last eight years of my life spending most of my year in New England, so I also call the North home! Here at Amherst I'm a Psychology major (currently completing my thesis, wish me luck!), and I also am completing the Five College Culture Health and Science certificate. Outside of school, I'm a member of the Amherst Women's Soccer Team, also serving as an athletics Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion representative for my team. I also work in the Office of Sustainability as the Communications, Outreach, and Education Fellow. I've also served on Student Senate Committees in the past, worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Geology department, and you can find me on weekends in the Winter and Spring working the video board at sports games! In my copious amounts of spare time I love (!!) baking and cooking (especially trying new plant-based and vegan recipes to post on my food instagram), playing cards (Euchre, if you know, you know), and long walks outside with podcasts (specifically together, not separately). As my time at Amherst dwindles down, I am so sad, but so grateful for all I've learned, the people I've met, the beautiful campus, and this experience overall. Meeting prospective students and families on tours is one of my favorite parts of my week, and I hope to see you on one! If not though, you can always email me: ccurran24@amherst.edu.
Name: Conner Glynn '24 (he/him/his)
Languages spoken: English, Spanish
Hometown: Danville, California
Majors: Political Science and Spanish
Activities on campus: Mock Trial, Model UN, APU
Hobbies: Baking, hiking, biking, going to the beach, listening to political podcasts
Hey everyone! My name is Conner and I'm a junior studying Political Science and Spanish here at Amherst. Growing up in a small suburb in California, I always knew I wanted to break free and move to the other coast. While I love the scenery of Western Massachusetts, I still think I prefer California "winters" to New England blizzards. I wanted to go to a small school to find a tight-knit group of friends and an intimate learning environment inside the classroom. Amherst has far surpassed my expectations as a curious, engaged, and loving community. Everyone here is passionate about something unique and niche, and professors always help to foster that passion. My passion is for politics, so on campus, I’m involved in anything and everything political – Mock Trial, Model UN, Amherst Political Union, and Political Science research here and at UMass. If you have an hour (or more) to kill, I’d love to talk politics!

I am writing a thesis in the Miller Lab looking at the chloroplast genome to better create phylogenies of evolutionarily young plant species. After college, I plan to pursue my outdoor interests and work a few seasons as a whitewater raft guide in Idaho before applying to graduate school.

Amherst offers various campus resources designed to support and honor the needs and goals of all students. I appreciate that the support is not limited to the courses you are taking. The Loeb Center for Career Exploration and Planning has helped me find internships and update my resume. Whether its going to late night Val in the middle of a study session, or walking by a professors office to grab some chocolate, you will never go hungry at Amherst! Other than providing an ample supply of food, Amherst has been a place where I have met some amazing friends and created some of my favorite memories. Activities on campus: Amherst Club Rowing, Food Justice Alliance, Amherst Connects
Hobbies: Weightlifting, writing, watching movies & tv shows, making art
Hey there! My name is Ari and I'm from Boise, Idaho. I'm a junior at Amherst College and have absolutely loved my experience so far. Despite the restrictions of the pandemic, I have made so many amazing friends and developed such a strong sense of community at Amherst. On campus, you'll likely catch me walking on the bike path with friends, in the freshmen quad dominating at Spikeball, or at Late Night devouring mozzarella sticks. When it’s homework grind time, you can find me in Frost Library or the Science Center working on assignments for my courses that are so interdisciplinary and niche that they practically scream “liberal arts!”. (I love my weird, niche classes, but if that’s not your thing, there’s ‘normal’ classes too). The professors at Amherst are encouraging and supporting, and the open curriculum ensures that the people in your class actually want to be there. Both socially and academically, I am so grateful I chose to be a mammoth! If you have any questions about the Amherst experience, please reach out to me at adengler24@amherst.edu.

Favorite question asked on tours: What is the typical Amherst student like?
Hi! My name is Jackie and I'm currently a junior here at Amherst College. I'm from Port Washington, New York—a humid yet scenic waterfront town out in the Long Island suburbs. In typical English major fashion, you'll often spot me with my nose in a book on one of the numerous Adirondack chairs scattered around the First Year Quad. You might also find me napping in one under the shade. I vividly remember touring Amherst for the first time: panting as I climbed the 77 stairs up to Memorial Hill, I thought to myself, "There's no way I'm climbing these stairs ever again." Despite my deep-seated aversion to these stairs in the past, I now trudge up these stairs proudly at least once every day for the beautiful hilltop views of the distant Holyoke Range, and as I make my way up from the hill to the First Year Quad, I'm always guaranteed to bump into a friendly face—a warm reminder of the closeness that defines the Amherst community. If you ever have any questions about Amherst, please feel free to email me at jfernandes24@amherst.edu!
Name: Jess Li '24 (she/her/hers)
Languages spoken: English, a little bit of Mandarin
Hometown: San Diego, California
Majors: Economics and Sociology
Activities on campus: Dance and Step at Amherst College, Intersections Dance Company, Asian Students Association, Chinese Students Association, Investment Club
Hobbies: Dancing (both actual dancing and jumping around with friends), long walks, eating and making food, starting TV shows and never finishing them, trying to charm animals
Hey, my name is Jess and I'm a junior at Amherst! Frankly, I never expected myself to come to Amherst, but I'm so glad that I've been able to find a home here throughout my short time as a student here. When I toured Amherst, I was awed by how close-knit and warm the community was (and still is). Being on-campus during the coronavirus pandemic really proved this to me; I was amazed to see the community come together to make sure campus is safe and everyone still gets an exhaustive college experience. Student groups and organizations have given me a lot of opportunities to meet new people and helped me feel like I have a place on campus. I'm really excited to see my growth during my next few years at Amherst. If there are any questions, if you'd just like to chat about Amherst, or you need advice on how applying or making a decision, feel free to email me at jhli24@amherst.edu!

Activities on campus: Baseball, Sports Business and Analytics Club, Amherst College Democrats
Hobbies: Playing cards, watching and playing sports, following politics, listening to podcasts
Hi! My name is Will Marshall from the City of Lakes, Minneapolis, MN. I chose Amherst because I wanted to break out of my comfort zone and see a new part of the US. As soon as I saw the view from the top of Memorial Hill, I knew that I was going to love it here. I'm so glad I found such an incredible community of amazing, smart, motivated, well-rounded and overall awesome people here at the college. I love being free to explore my interests with the support of friends and faculty (which can be obscure sometimes: ask me about the beauty of the interstate highway numbering system if you ever have 15 minutes to burn!) During fall, I can be found on campus admiring the leaves, in the winter you’ll find me telling people that it's not really that cold here, and in the spring you can find me soaking up the sun in an adirondack chair on the quad. Whatever the season, I love talking with people about Amherst so please reach out at wmarshall24@amherst.edu!

I chose Amherst because of the ability to form close connections with professors and the passion I felt from students all around campus. I've found incredible support from the tight-knit and kind community here at Amherst and beyond with our alums. From taking classes outside of my comfort zone (shoutout to Amherst's fantastic math department!) to trying out lots of different clubs, I've found that the flexibility and inclusive nature of Amherst always supports my exploration and growth. While not studying, sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming up the gorgeous New England scenery (spoiler alert, it's even prettier in person). I also love to catch indie movies at our local theater in Amherst! Feel free to email me any questions at rrock25@amherst.edu!

Hey guys! My name is Rania and I'm a sophomore from Queens, NY! Being born and raised in a large city, I've absolutely loved experiencing a different type of environment at Amherst. From seeing a bear in the Wildlife Sanctuary, ziplining over beautiful mountains, or lying on Memorial hill gazing at the stars, I've really enjoyed exploring nature here. Looking back on my time so far, some of my favorite memories have been getting caught in the rain at the Book and Plow farm, going caving with the Outing Club, and having hours-long philosophy debates about multiverses and genetic cloning with my friends at Frost library (my favorite building on campus!). Although I'm a philosophy & statistics major, I've also taken a lot of classes in Environmental Studies & Math. If you have any questions or want to talk more about Amherst, please feel free to reach out at radouim26@amherst.edu!

Hi all! My name is Andrew Carmody and I'm from North Haven, Connecticut. I am a Math and Political Science Major. I chose Amherst because it was the absolute best option for me to be able to get a world class education and play hockey for a winning program--very rarely do you find a place that allows you to do both! At Amherst, I love spending time with my friends in Val (which also happens to be my place of residence), throwing a football/baseball/other projectile in the quad, eating CBR pizza at Antonio's, and cheering on other sports teams while I'm out of season. Hi! My name is Joline and I’m a sophomore from Brooklyn, NY. I’m an Anthropology major on the pre-med track, and I’ve also taken a bunch of courses in German, LJST, and Political Science. I came to Amherst because I wanted to be part of a small, tight-knit community where I wouldn’t feel like just another face in the crowd, and that’s exactly what I’ve found here. The professors are truly amazing, and it’s inspiring to be surrounded by students who are all so driven and have such diverse interests. I also fell in love with the campus when I first visited — nothing beats Amherst’s small college New England vibes in the fall. In my free time I love going on walks on our beautiful rail trail, sitting in Val for hours on end, or grabbing coffee in town. I love talking about all things Amherst so please email me at jfong26@amherst.edu if you have any questions!

Hobbies: Skiing, electric bass and guitar, New York Times Daily Mini
Hi! My name is Avi and I'm a first year from Oakland, California. I came to Amherst undecided on my major and hoping to explore the breadth of the curriculum. Boy have I gotten to do just that. I haven't taken a single class in an overlapping department this year. The small classes have helped me engage deeply with each given subject, allowing me to get a real sense of various fields (unfortunately, this hasn't helped me narrow my major choice yet because they've all been so interesting). The class offerings, while maybe fewer in number than some larger universities, are fascinating. During preregistration, I found myself with a 'Saved Schedule' that contained nearly 20 classes ranging from quantum mechanics to extremism in Cuba to a course entirely dedicated to studying murder. In my free time, you can find me in the music building singing or playing jazz bass, attending an Amherst Students for Democracy meeting, at weekly Shabbat dinners hosted by Hillel, or in my common room playing cards with my friends. Feel free to reach out to me at ahelft26@amherst.edu about anything! I'm always happy to talk.

At Amherst, the kind, curious, and vibrant community has supported me in so many different endeavors. In my free time, you can find me in a studio (art, dance, or music) or walking around campus (preferably either in bright sun or deep snow) admiring the beautiful mountains and architecture. I love talking to new people so feel free to reach out at ahollin26@amherst.edu!

I really like it here, and if there's anything you want to know or advice I can give, feel free to ask me anything.

I'd always heard about Amherst but when I got to visit for myself I fell in love with the beautiful campus and all the people I'd met. I chose Amherst for its intimate and welcoming liberal arts education-- though I could never have expected to be invited to professors houses for dinner. Whether it be long trail walks by campus or hanging out in the science center, there is always something to do. Amherst has given me life-long friends and I can't wait for what the next two years has in store. Feel free to reach out with any questions kquigley26@amherst.edu

Hey everyone my name is Daniela but all my friends call me Dani. I'm from Lawrence Massachusetts. I am currently a sophomore majoring in math and comp sci. Outside of my major you will find me taking as many art classes as possible because I love to make art. The open curriculum is my favorite part about Amherst because it allows me to have a balanced class schedule of required courses for my major and courses that peak my personal interest. I love how small Amherst is because there is a huge sense of community here, not just with my friends but with my professors too. You will always catch me in my professor's office hours doing my homework and learning about their work outside of the class. In my free time I spend time with my friends either in the library, a resource center in Keefe or in Val. We also enjoy walking to town and grabbing a late night meal.

Majors: Mathematics and Psychology
Activities on campus: Sabrinas A Cappella, Women's Club Soccer
Hobbies: Singing, reading, cooking, and playing board games a little too competitively
Hi! My name is Iris, and I am currently a sophomore at Amherst College. I had NO idea what I was looking for in a college until pretty late in the decision-making process, but when I finally figured out what I wanted, Amherst checked all of the boxes. I love the opportunity to explore all sorts of classes that interest me through the open curriculum (in my first year here I took classes in 7 different departments) and the incredible support I've received from my community and professors. When not touring, I can be found directing my a cappella group, cycling through the floors of Frost library (I can never choose a favorite!), embarrassing myself on the soccer field, or getting GoBerry with my friends. I'd love to gush even more about my experience here, so if you have any questions at all you can email me at isusen26@amherst.edu.
Name: Emory Tudor '26 (they/them)

Majors: Prospective English and Biology
Activities on campus: Swim team, Queer Athletes Alliance (QAA), Club Water Polo, Skate Club
Hobbies: Reading (fiction only!), picking peppers from Book & Plow, drawing crazy, made-up creatures, and curating my cache of teas
Hey! My name is Emory and I’m a sophomore from the sunny hills of Hillsborough, California. Coming to Amherst, I was excited, but nervous. My fears were quickly assuaged, however, by a welcoming community of caring students and supportive professors. Amherst’s community is incredible, with students and faculty alike constantly working to make the college experience rewarding on all facets, personal, academic, or otherwise. Whether it be pumpkin carving at Fall Fest, canoeing on the Connecticut River, or attending an infamous Gads improv show, the Amherst community always shows up, reminding you that, here, college is so much more than academics. It’s lifelong friendship and community; it’s doing what you love; it’s learning about who you are. If you couldn’t tell from that little spiel, I love Amherst! When I’m not writing an essay on niche literary motifs, catching wild birds for my lab, or swimming my butt off in Pratt Pool, you can find me Val sitting with friends, a fantasy book and a good cup of tea (preferably chai). If you’ve got any questions, or just want a good book recommendation, shoot me an email at etudor26@amherst.edu.

Hobbies: Dancing, painting, baking, and spending time with friends
Hi, my name is Sharisa, and I am a mathematics and economics double major from San Diego, California. Coming from a small high school, I was drawn to the small class sizes, close-knit community, and ability to get to know your professors at Amherst. At first, I was really reluctant about the open curriculum because I thought I would be too indecisive to pick my classes. Now, it has become one of my favorite things about this school, allowing me to take a balanced, well-rounded, and diverse course load. Outside of the classroom, you can find me dancing with Intersections, socializing with friends in Frost, or trying a new restaurant in town. If you have any questions or would like to reach out to an Amherst student, please feel free to email me at syou26@amherst.edu.

Activities on campus: Bio Research Assistant, Physics Research Assistant, Intern with Five College Inc., Chess club, Fly Fishing club, and Mycology club!
Hobbies: Reading, NES Tetris, cooking
Hi everyone! I'm Vivien, and my hometown is Saipan, an island in the Pacific Ocean that is home to about 40,000 people. Fun (?) fact: we have neither proper street addresses nor "cities" (or towns, for that matter), so everyone (basically everyone) gets their mail delivered to their PO box address and everyone lives in a village. I grew up in the village called Garapan! I have really enjoyed my time here at Amherst so far and I look forward to another 2 years of being involved in this community. Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions you have about my experience (especially if you can't come for a physical tour of the campus!). Reach me at vliu26@amherst.edu.

Hobbies: Pickup basketball, biking, word games
Hi! I’m Luke and I’m from Andover, Massachusetts. I came to Amherst looking for that quintessential "small college experience" you read about. This has been exactly what I’ve found: curious students, passionate professors, and freedom to explore all interests. When I toured, I was blown away by how kind and genuine the students and faculty we met were. I knew Amherst was a community I wanted to be apart of. On campus, you might find me on my second (or is this the third?) plate at Valentine Dining Hall, pretending I know what I'm doing in the Wolff Fitness Center, or taking a walk by the Book and Plow Farm for a study break. Please reach out at jbardetti27@amherst.edu if you have any questions about Amherst or my experience, if you want to tell me about your dogs, or if you need a pickleball partner. Much love!

Hobbies: Watching college basketball, drawing, and movie marathons
Hi! My name is Marci Cordon and I'm from Queens, New York. During the college application process I knew I wanted to attend a small liberal arts college because I value feeling connected to a larger community and building relationships with professors. My decision to attend Amherst was largely influenced by Amherst's open curriculum and the fact that the college has an Architectural Studies major, which most other liberal arts college do not have. I'm currently considering majoring in Architectural Studies and Computer Science. Like most Amherst students, however, I'm looking forward to exploring different majors! I have loved getting to know so many people with different experiences from me, and I have really enjoyed hearing about all the niche interests and hobbies every Amherst student inevitably has. Activities on campus: Amherst College Tennis Umpires, Figure Skating, Outing Club, Club Tennis
Hobbies: Officiating college tennis matches, relaxing in the common room with friends, solving logic puzzles, and trying to meet every person on campus (reach out so I can meet you too!)
Hey everyone! My name is Adrian and I'm a freshman from Chicago, Illinois. I came to Amherst because after making a 77-page document filled with pros/cons lists on tons of different colleges, it was one of the few schools with practically no cons. What I didn't know was that every single pro on that list would turn out to be true, along with so much more. Since arriving in the fall, I've enjoyed meeting people from a wide variety of backgrounds and having the most interesting conversations with them all.
